CAT MUMMY CASE
Thousands of Egyptian cats were embalmed and presented as offerings to the goddesses Bastet and Pakhet. The mummies were often placed in costly, cat-shaped mummy cases like this one. The Egyptians believed that the “souls” of the goddesses took up residence in the desiccated animals. It was, accordingly, a good deed to offer a cat mummy to the goddesses.
